March 2018 - Our new exclusive super-difficult 1000 piece jigsaw puzzle has arrived in the post. Can't wait to see how many of our future guests are willing to take up the challenge.
Feb 2018 - Carnival in Glossa is a raucous affair; plenty of fancy dress, a decorated fishing boat carried up to Central Square, orange smoke distress flares, air horns, firecrackers, souvlakis, wine and of course traditional dancing.
Jan 2018 - Epiphany is celebrated every year with a church service followed by this spectacle; the priest takes a small boat out into the harbour and throws a cross into the sea. Young men dive into the sea to retrieve the cross, watched by young women.
Dec 2017 - Kastani beach looking beautiful and unspoiled just as it used to.
Nov 2017 - At long last the island has an olive harvest, for several years the crop has failed and the press has remained closed. This year everyone is picking, the press is working round the clock and the quality of the oil is out of this world!
Oct 2017 - The beginning of winter is marked by the ripening of the pomegranates. It indicates that it is time for Persephone to return to her husband, Hades, king of the underworld.
Sept 2017 - The grapes have done well this year and we have a bumper harvest. Now the long and careful wine-making process begins.
Aug 2017 - Sitting at Petrino in Loutraki watching little boats come and go. I can think of worse things to do.
July 2017 - Crossing the island through the forest over the mountain road which runs between Neo Klima/Elios and Skopelos Town we met this handsome beast on the road just by the goat station there.
June 2017 - Quintessentially Greek - a trumpet vine, a cat, a yucca and a Greek flag on the back road, the shortest route from the cottage into Glossa.
May 2017 - Summer's here and the time is right for dining out at Flisvos :-)
April 2017 - The month was dominated by re-styling and re-tiling the pool. The deep end is shallower making it easier to see the view from inside the pool. The ledge is shallower too, so now you can sit in the pool sipping a drink while enjoying the view.
March 2017 - Mount Dirfi on the island of Evvia looming majestically over Trachili on Skopelos Island. It is possible to see across astonishing distances during winter months when there is less haze above the sea.
Feb 2017 - There are hundreds of private churches on Skopelos island, a most unusual tradition. This church on the road from Loutraki to Glossa is dedicated to Ag Riginos who is the island's patron saint. He is celebrated on 25th February.
Jan 2017 - Skopelos received its heaviest snowfall in thirty years. We found it quite fun and exciting but not everybody had a good time. Lots of branches have broken off olive trees and also trees in the forest, but for a while it was so pretty!
Dec 2016 - Lambretta, the newest addition to our little farm. Here she is clambering up me with excitement and she hasn't even heard of the lambada yet!
Nov 2016 - Some lovely gold and silver Autumn colours on the trees
Oct 2016 - The weather remained glorious until after the very last charter flight left from Skiathos. What a great Summer!
Sept 2016 - This submarine is an annual visitor when the Greek Navy comes to commemorate a Greek submarine sunk during WWII between Skiathos and Glossa and also to place wreaths on the statue of Glossan local hero Nicholas Kapadouka.
Aug 2016 - Mule blows raspberry at tomatoes, wanted apples.
July 2016 - The night-fishing fleet has arrived from Volos. They fish during the dark of the moon attracting sardines and anchovies to the surface with bright lamps making the sea look like a night sky full of stars.
June 2016 - Every so often something like this just happens to sail past the front door!
May 2016 - Greek Easter fell on 1st May this year.
April 2016 - The wisteria looked gorgeous for us, but with nobody else here to enjoy it we think that in future years we will prevent it from wasting so much of its strength on this display of lingerie in the hope that it will grow and provide more shade.
March 2016 - Visitations from a baby hedgehog and migrating hoopoes.
Feb 2016 - The truly spectacular 'Drakondoschisma' – Not for the faint-hearted!
Jan 2016 - Sometimes you just know you are going nowhere at all for a day or two.
Dec 2015 - The Skopelos Town Nativity scene complete with reindeer.
Nov 2015 - Winter skies can be stunning!
Oct 2015 - The lantana flower, also known as 'ham-and-eggs' which is great for attracting butterflies. Shame I failed to catch it with a butterfly on it!
Sept 2015 - So much rain! Little did we know how much damage was happening at the other end of the island.
Aug 2015 - This is as good a place as any to stand still, make no noise, listen to the forest, inhale deeply the fragrance of the pine trees and let your troubles float away on the breeze.
July 2015 - I've fancied this plant for years. Last autumn it's owner gave me some cuttings so one day, hopefully, our walls may be as spectacular as this one.
June 2015 - Local children being taught the 'Sirtos' dance in the school playground. There are many variants of this dance ranging from very basic to very complex. Every Greek person learns it whether or not they live in Greece.
May 2015 - Somebody in Skopelos Town has bed linen to match the bougainvillea adjacent to their washing line!
April 2015 - Sometime in the next few weeks this hillside will require a haircut, but hopefully we can leave it until after these poppies and dandelions have finished bringing us so much joy.
